Relax Buffalo, it's Only Voluntary

Terrell Owens will miss voluntary workouts for the Bills. Some fans might see this as the beginning of the long year with TO on the Bills roster, but I beg to differ. Remember the workouts are only voluntary and not mandatory. He does not need to be there right now. “I talked to Coach Jauron prior to the start of the workouts about that,” Owens told reporters. “Right now if there's nothing mandatory that I have to be a part of, then I won't intend to be there.” As of right now TO will work out on his own with a personal trainer. I’ve seen the guy every year and he’s is always in shape and takes very good care of his body. From the HBO show which documented the Cowboys pre-season, Owens always worked out and showed how he was committed to keeping himself in shape and tip top condition.

The only time when I would start to get a little concerned will be when he doesn’t show up during the mandatory work outs for the Bills. During those mandatory workouts, the team starts getting the new playbooks and starts doing some drills to get into more of a football shape. It will be very bad for the Bills if TO isn’t there because TO needs to adapt to the new coaching staff, the players and QB play style. He will need to be there at those times. I think he will be there because remember this is only a one year deal with the Bills. If he does show up, he will be showing his new potential future team after this upcoming season that “I’m a reliable guy who will be there on time at camp and learn all the plays”. TO will need to be in camp in order to have a great productive season next September. If the QB and the WR aren’t on the same page, TO’s numbers will suffer, hurting his chances for more teams to sign him after next season in the free agency market.

On a brighter note and a side of Owens we don’t see often, Owens was presented an award from Alzheimer’s Association this past Wednesday. The Alzheimer's Association honored Owens for raising awareness about the fight against the disease. Owens’s grandmother Alice Black, has been affected by it and she raised Owens growing up and credits her. “My grandmother has been very, very instrumental in where I am as a person and my determination on the football field,” Owens said. It’s sad that we don’t see this side of TO often. It’s always his open minded and very opinionated side we see on TV week after week on ESPN. I didn’t know he contributed so much to the Alzheimer’s Association until I read this about him last week.
